a wonderful and safe labor day weekend, and watch what happens to mitt romney after the democratic national convention. ♪ >> cenk: welcome to "the young turks." we've gone at awesome show ahead for you guys. we're going to do analyze of mitt romney's speech, the whole r.n.c. the good, the bad, and the ugly. speaking of witch. >> the convention is over, popping the benediction has been delivered mitt romney has accepted the nomination, but as clint eastwood accepted the razzies for his performance tonight. >> cenk: and we've invisible obama in the house. then we'll tell you about t millionaire donors. >> he was not something that senator blunt was eager to talk about. senator, can you answer the question?

>> cenk: michael shure talked to brian ross about that story. really interesting. don't miss that. and then later in the program it turns out huge parts of the osama bin laden raid were made up. >> they walked by and said, are you guys ready? can you pull this off? i'm pretty sure they said, yes absolutely. >> cenk: right before the show people came up and said, are you all ready. we shook hands and said yes. you know why? because it's go time. [ ♪ music ♪ ] >> cenk: so last night everybody of course thought mitt romney's speech was going to be the big moment at the end of the republican national convention. it turns out we were wrong. the big moment was president obama. invisible obama's. so let's break down the

convention for you. first clint eastwood came out. this is what we were referencing. he gave a rambling unfortunate speech where he was talking to an inadvisable obama. let's watch a little piece of it. >> all of these promises, and then i wondered about you know, when the--what? what do you want me to tell romney? i can't tell him that. i he can't do that to himself. you're absolutely crazy. [laughter] you're getting at bad as biden. >> cenk: okay. now listen, we actually gave you the best part. the rest of it was even worse. we'll get to that even later and i might talk to a couple of invisible people later in the show.

let's get to the main event mitt romney. i thought some parts of the speech were very good. and then some parts not so good. let's give you one of the moments that helped to humanize him. which was his main goal. >> my mom and dad were married for 64 years, and if you wondered what their secret was, you could have asked the local florist. [laughter] because every day dad gave mom a rose. which he put on her bedside she found out what happened on the day my father died. she went looking for him because that morning there was no rose. my mom and dad were true partners. a life lesson that shaped me by every-day example. >> cenk: i think that was a great moment. he teared up a little bit. i loved that story and it made me want to vote for george romney. now later on he had to do the attacks on president obama. which of course always border on

ugly. let's watch that as well. >> to begin my presidency with a job's tour. president obama began his presidency with an apology tour. america, he said dictated other nations. no mr. president. america has freed other nations from dictators. [applause] every american. [ chanting usa ] >> cenk: that's one of my favorite moments in a world where every four years the republicans get together and someone said something and then chanting "usa." i got it. let's bring in someone in who is kind of epic. [ ♪ music ♪ ] >> cenk: epic politics man joins us from tampa.

all right, michael, what's the wrap up on this convention? >> i'm the last man standing. i think what's happening in this convention, as i think about it, i'm hearing so many more democrats talking about this convention than even republicans around here. i don't know what that means, but it means if republicans were pleased with the way it went they would be talking about it a lot more. some of my take-aways, you didn't hear romney talk at all about our troops, at all about afghanistan. can you imagine if a democrat went up there as a nominee and didn't mention afghanistan the troops unpatriotic,s think guy hates america. >> cenk: he has totally misquoted romney's position, criticized romney's position on afghanistan without realizing it. that's an interesting part. it seems that a lot of people thought the speech last night went pretty good.

but i felt it was a little empty inside. i didn't get a sense there was lasting moment when people would take away and say, you know what that's why i'm going to vote for this romney guy. >> cenk, it was find fine. it was fine as you said. he talked about religion. he talked about his family. that's the theme they'll use to warp warm people to mitt romney. they still need people to warm to him. the state of the union entrance did not work. all the preambles to his speech i think it's about getting people warmed to him. i wouldn't doubt to see religion play a bigger part in his ad and the idea of his family playing a bigger part of those ads as they go forward. >> cenk: michael shure, covering the convention for us, we really appreciate it. we'll see you in north carolina when the democrats hold their convention in north carolina. >> thanks. >> cenk: i'm going to bring in all my rowdy friends. but they're different rowdy

but it was full of lies, raising taxes and i agree with you. i thought the part about his parents was very endearing. it's interesting that they have to bring people in who like mitt romney in lieu of mitt romney being likable. i'm curious if there will be bumps in the polls that will be wiped away next week. >> cenk: amanda? >> romney's thing about wooing more voters will be to get older women to vote for i think he failed. he knew it was his goal. he talked about giving women jobs. but i think it's a story that will leave that particular category a little bit cold. >> cenk: he tried he tried really hard, paul ryan and then ann romney over the top i love women. >> that's part of the issue. the entire romney strategy for

the campaign is to tear down obama. not to tell romney's story. then all of a sudden comes august and the romney campaign has to essential liripoop their playbook and entry to introduce their candidate for presidency. people still don't know mitt romney. i don't know if this is just one speech in primetime will be enough to break through the way they need to. >> cenk: fair enough. invisible obama what do you think? what, michael should do what with john? [ chuckling ] now seriously guys, overall convention, take away. they try for the mormon vote as amanda pointed out. and then the latino vote, i never seen romney speak so much spanish in one month. yeah, i got it.

latinos. it doesn't really work. but did they effectively communicate to independents and get a couple of those guys on their side? or did they talk too much about themselves whether its chris christie marco ruby, rubio. >> i think they failed to get across the diversity message that they try to get across. they got very close on the last night. i thought they were going to pull it off but then clint eastwood rapted at a fake ranted at an invisible obama. it's still full of angry white men. >> caller: that shot of a 82-year-old white man. >> dirty harry hates liberals. the whole point of the story is that they have to let him go

rogue because of the liberals. >> cenk: i'm going to put you on the spot at the end. a to f on the convention. i don't think it was an "f." i certainly don't think it was an "a." >> c-minute news. -minus, but not an a. >> i got to say a c-plus. i got to say it was well done over all but every day you're talking about what was wrong with it, and the mainstream media is catching up. it was full of self-serving speeches and it did make mitt romney look like the candidate you want to vote for. >> cenk: correct answer, c-minus. i don't think people walked away with a full feeling, hmm, i'm not sure what i got. the democratic convention will be much better. we will see if that matches reality.

the real convention, the real action was with the millionaires and the billionaires. >> this is the elite of the elite. and they're able to look down at what their money is spending like (vo) this is joy. >>who the heck does mitt romney think he is? (vo) this is joy on current tv. >>if mitt romney treats his magic underwear the same way as his tax returns, then he's been going commando for the past 10 years.

congressmen. "abc news" and brian ross. first here is a part of their story on the fancy parties that the real convention goers were going to. >> they live on through senate republicans, someone inside took these pictures for us as including cornym of texas claim sponsors put up the $25,000 a piece to be there. >> joining me in thanking blue cross and blue shield affleck. >> they have a huge stake in healthcare coverage loss and and the congressmen they spend time with will rewrite those laws. it was not something that senator blunt wanted to talk about. >> senator, can you answer the questions. >> cenk: that was great. brian ross also croak the story about cracker bay. what is cracker bay?

the yacht that romney was partying on. that's the merchant flag that even their yachts don't want to pay taxes. 15 didn't donors have gone through different parties throughout tampa area for mitt romney, and they've all given over $1 million. now who do you think mitt romney is going to listen to, some random delegate from missouri or the guy who gave him $1 million. those guys are called the victory counsel. brian ross caught up with him on the reporting of these secret donors and their real influence on the party. >> what i see as the contradiction, the picture that we see on the floor at this convention, and to extent at the democratic convention, that's not the real business. the real business is around the periphery. look at the convention of the forum. those sky boxes around the rim. that's where all the fat cats are, that's where the big dogs are. it's not hot dogs and beer for

them like everyone else. it is the finest wines, top-shelf liquor, hors d'oeuvres, plush seats. this is the elite of the elite and they're able to look down and see what their money is paying for. >> cenk: let me bring in my panel. michael hastings, amanda marcott, and john fugelsang. i think michael shure has been doing a great job in covering this. and now here is the yacht that they're partying on. it has the cayman island's flag, isn't that outrageous, but not a peep. >> i think the press is busy with the pyrotechnics of just the event itself. but i think one of having all these billionaire donors down there, in the past the candidate would spend the whole week there. so brian ross helped to answer the question, why is romney spending the whole week in tampa. because he's meeting with the high-level donors. the reason why they're giving so

much money to romney now $10 million and $20 million up to $1 million at times because obama wants to shut down their loopholes that will cost them millions. that will save them in the tax bill when romney wins. >> cenk: there is a story of reporting that david koch specifically would give $100 million to get paul ryan on the ticket for him to be the v.p. but if you do a calculation and paul ryan gets his way, and the capital gains which are already low to zero percent, david koch four-year term would save $750 million. so there is a lot of money to be made by buying these politicians. they caught up with david koch at the convention. listen to what happened at the

end. this is good. >> we ran into david koch found founder of the koch industry. >> talk to us about paul ryan. >> i like paul ryan. he's a superstar. >> what do you expect to hear in his speech. >> reduce the national debt and keeping us as a country from going bankrupt. >> how is citizens united effected this year's campaign. >> pardon me. >> how much money are going to spend on this election, mr. koch? >> cenk: once again, i got to go, i got to run dawg. amanda, we talk a lot about how there is not much going on in this convention, and it seems useless. but we might be wrong. it might be at these parties they're making the real decisions about policy if wins. >> they clearly are no doubt about that. citizens united changed everything. the coverage used to be how they were going to effect voters and do the gears of democracy.

now so much more money is coming into it. our ability to cover it has not caught up at all. >> cenk: yes john? >> you can't stand up for main street when you're on all fors for call street. we saw the strategy beautifully done. you saw them dangle red meat for social conservatives when in reality wall street controls the party. wall street cares about deregulation and tax cuts. they do not care about abortion, gay marriage and illegal immigration. >> cenk: david koch came out gay marriage, i got no problem with that. he just wants to make trouble. >> so bring on the mexicans. >> cenk: that's why we still don't have real policy on immigration the companies make tremendous profits off of illegal immigration with cheap, cheap labor. >> they don't care. they're going to keep telling social conservative abouts this. look at the abortion issue. the g.o.p. controls the house, the white house and the senate

for six years. they could have defunded planned parenthood for breakfast breakfast at day one. they didn't. they don't care. >> cenk: speaking of david koch, michael shure talks to brian ross about that, how they party and who is in charge here. let's watch. >> charles reportedly plans to donate tens of millions of dollars to defeat abraham barack obama. when we ran into him away from the convention at the steakhouses, we dodged our cameras and wouldn't talk. today his group, americans for prosperity, informed us they were revoking our credentials from covering the events because they thought that our questions focused too much money and politics. >> cenk: god, that is just perfect. because if you do a good job of covering the news, we're going to revoke your credentials. that's really the god's honest truth here. >> three cheers for brian ross

[ ♪ theme music ♪ ] >> cenk: we're back on "the young turks." there is a fellow by the name of marco ono owen. that's not his real name. he's part of navy seal six and he's hiding his identity. he was part of the raid of osama bin laden and his account is totally different from what we heard from the white house. this sunday he'll appear on 60 images. apparently this is him in disguise. >> i worried from the beginning that it's a political season. this book is not political whatsoever. it doesn't bad mouth either party. and we specifically chose september 11th to keep it out of the politics. you know, these on either side of the aisles want to make it political, shame on

them. >> cenk: a of course it's going to be political right before an election. but i think a much more interesting part of it is what he said about the reality of what happened. now the counter terrorism adviser to the white house said there was a 40-minute fire fight outside of bin laden's home. this is what owen rights. it looked like a bad action movie. it was so wrong. apparently bin laden got shot even before the navy seals got in the room, then they finished him off. jay carney later changed the account that the white house was putting out, but even this was not correct. this is from may 3rd of last year. >> there was concern that bin laden would oppose the capture operation and, indeed he did resist. in the room bin laden, a woman bin laden's wife, rushed the u.s. and was shot in

the leg but not killed. bin laden was then shot and killed. he was not armed. >> cenk: now there they finally confessed that he was not armed. but the reality is that a navy seals guys did not shoot him at first when they came into the room. mark owen said that half of his brains were spilling out, then they finished him opposite even though they were not supposed to. they were supposed to detain him if he was unarmed. let's discuss the ethics of that and other aspects. our mainstream seems to take the pentagon press as gospel. when they have a first-account of a story it's almost always fictional. >> as with jessica lynch pat tillman's case where you have heroic actions and we find out it's completely undermined with what happened. and now with the bin laden >> cenk: i remember when i used to be with the mainstream press

i would say i don't believe the pentagon. people would be like, what? how can you believe that? that's point number one. and owens is clear the original count was not where near true as you saw there. number two, what do we think about owen releasing this information that the white house and the government is not happy about. they may prosecute well, that would be amazed by that if that were to happen. but listen to the disparity of brady manning who releases classified information and this is the only classif classified information on this book. >> i think he's right to be writing the book. they're cracking down on him because it's coming out on september 11th, two months before the election. it's disengenius of the author to sigh that he's surprised that it's political. they could have moved the date

out later. it's not like his husband came out and said we lied like a real sin. you know, i don't think there is going to hurt the obama administration. that's all people care about is the political football that this represents. i don't think anybody is going to be outraged that we killed bin laden the wrong way unless there are people who want a government based on christian values. because according to jesus this whole operation was a no-no. >> cenk: i want to read graphic c-5th. from the book "no easy day." it says on the second night of afghanistan we were sitting around a fire bit and joking about which hollywood actors would play them in the bin laden movie and one seal joked we'll get bin laden. it's interesting, a lot of them were republicans on that theme. dammit, obama going to take

credit for it. they don't take credit? >> draft dodgers wore a flight suit. >> they were all taking credit for it at the republican national convention it seemed like to me. >> there has been a sustained campaign by former members of the certainly force community and current members to undermine obama's record in the bin laden raid. it started in february when he said that obama basically put everyone at risk. you've had three super pacs come out, and the front of those super pacs are former navy seals who are in touch with other navy seals. this is part of the same campaign. glenn beck's website was pushing this book. all the grassroots organizations are pushing this book. i don't know if it's going to have an effect but they're trying their best. >> in other so it

shouldn't matter how they killed bin laden it under minds--the image they're undermining the story the notion that the story is being undermine. >> cenk: and president obama is trying to take credit and swift vote them on this. >> yes. >> cenk: before we move off that point, the bush administration didn't get bin laden. they had several years with miserable, miserable failures. the fact that john kerry did not run on that more is an embarrassment. >> it's only a failure if bush cared about getting bin laden. bush said he didn't care about getting bin laden. >> cenk: he said that. this is what pisses me off. a general in afghanistan had 5,000 guys when we had bin laden cornered. they said i want to go in. rumsfeld said no. no, don't get bin laden. for you, any of these navy seals six guys to remain republican is amazing to me. move onto the

final issue real quick, which is look guys, should they have killed him? world's worst bad guy. no one will shed a tear for bin laden. he clearly was defenseless. he clearly did not have a weapon. they clearly would not have to kill him. >> i would like to see the trial. that's my crazy idea about ideals and it would be a great story to cover. >> yes, i mean, that bringing him in alive would have been better for obama's propaganda purposes honestly. the old, feeble, humiliated man. >> i'm naive to think that a country based on freedom should not be assassinating people. >> cenk: it's not like, boo-hoo bin laden. it's what it says about us. oh, my god, where are we going to try him? it's going to be a political mess. that's not how we should be

we seem to have a theme there. plays basketball. family man and a snapgy dresser. >> caller: and there are so many things you would they could say. he gave me the tax cuts i need. he's a non-violent muslim. he's half white. at least something from these guys. >> the funniest part about saying he's a snapgy dresser left to his own devices if his stylist is not dressing him or his wife he's a terrible dresser. wearing mom jeans. >> cenk: i don't pull the pants up but i'm a horrible dresser. it's interesting. not only is he not muslim. he's also not non-violent. >> they ought to be a big fan of him. >> cenk: that's an interesting point. >> he has high favorability ratings. usually around 60%. people like obama. even his own worst enemies say

he's mesmerizing. if you went to the democratic convention and asked people to say something nice about president bush, it would been worse. >> cenk: we play this game amongst ourselves back then. he did his best with north korea, and his libya policy was not that bad and disarming gadhafi. and there are policies things that you can say good things about him. but part of what michael shure is saying, they don't like the guy and they have a visceral reaction. >> as opposed to their good nature towards bill clinton all those years ago. >> cenk: i know. by the way poll-rising figures nonsense. fox news is what polarizes all of that. bill clinton, hillary clinton, and then obama, and then you wonder why people don't like

operation. we got an e-mail forwarded that says, the e-mail warned that department of homeland security was helping to coordinate the false flag operation. the federal agency was taking their orders from the white house, and hoped to delay the november indefinitely. oh. here is the right wing with another crazy conspiracy theory. if you see any news about right wing militia doing anything crazy, don't believe it. it's a false flag operation. in fact, it continued. the more we talk about the potential for a staged bogus presidential assassination that would trigger massive civil unrest and possibly marshal law the stronger is our defense against it actually occurring. here is the real problem. it actually was occurring. there was no civil unrest and delaying elections. that's nonsense crazy talk. but what is crazier there are four guys who were part of this right wing militia called

forever enduring, always ready in other words "fear." they bought $87,000 amount of weapons. batter of the reason why they were caught is because they killed some of their own. hoo is a report from wsav. >> a loosened who knew too much about their plan. which ultimately included national and local acts of terrorism. >> act of domestic care, forcibly taking over the point. bombing and to include the department of homeland security. members also with the bomb in savannah. >> cenk: most of the media is not calling these guys terrorists. but if blowing up a dam and

killing the president and they wanted to do a coup. if that's not terrorism what is. >> it is particularly frustrating this has happened before. under clinton we saw right-wing militias, and that let mcveigh the largest terrorist act that happened in the united states at that point. we are to forget that this ever happened. it just goes into the memory hole. >> cenk: furthermore on that john imagine if it was four iranians when were trying to overcome our government, blow up dams. >> fox may cover that. >> cenk: they would be in the streets of tehran today. >> terrorism is when you use fear and try to instill fear to bring about what you want. which is why i keep warning you

about "ghost busters iii"." this is a good example of this. if you're a terrorist you're supposed to kill innocent people you disagree with. if they kill their own friends they're bad terrorist as soon as to give you a sense of how hideous they are. they also brought out the guy they were blotting with, they were afraid of loose ends, and they shot her in the end. >> they're like mob stooges and low-level criminals but all the more important to shine a light on that because it's a problem that a lot of people don't want to take seriously. >> all these guys need to have one person join their group that is smart. that's what happen with tim mcveigh and repeatedly with abortion clinic bombers. you see it over and over again. >> cenk: fortunately, these guys were not that bright. unfortunately, they already got to do some violence before they were caught. the girlfriend coming out of the car, they shoot her in the head. their fellow soldier they lure
